Silk Ribbon Initial

This project for intermediate stitchers features flowers that are bold and beautiful and are fun to bring to life with silk ribbon. Each student will choose their initial and everyone will learn all of the flowers, even if their letter doesn’t include that flower. This class includes surface and silk ribbon embroidery using solid and hand-dyed silk ribbon and solid and variegated cotton threads.

Each kit will include a 15” x 15” piece of linen with Pellon Shape-Flex interfacing (SF101) applied, a muslin “dirt cloth” to protect your stitching, a 10” x 10” practice piece of cotton fabric, 4mm and 7mm hand-dyed and solid color silk ribbons, needles (chenille 22 and 24; milliners 7, embroidery 8), DMC and Chameleon Threads cotton flosses, and a copy of initial pattern (single letter of your choosing) with stitch key.

Students will need to bring an 8 or 8.5” wooden hoop, a 6” hoop for the practice piece, a blue wash-away pen or fine mechanical pencil, fine silk pins, sharp embroidery scissors, and paper scissors. A lap or floor stand and a light box or other light source for tracing are recommended. Students should bring their usual stitching supplies and light and magnification as needed.
