2025 Stitchery Showcase
The 2025 Stitchery Showcase featured over 350 pieces of gorgeous needlework and quilts from 95 entrants. The display filled the room with beautiful scenes of flowers, animals, trees, traditional samplers and pillows, spooky witches, Santa Claus, jewelry and jackets, and many intricate geometric designs. All of these pieces were lovingly made with a needle and thread using a broad spectrum of colors, varying techniques and materials, and styles ranging from traditional to very contemporary. Canvas was the largest category with 156 entries.
The guidelines for quilts were expanded this year to allow free-motion machine quilting that is hand-driven rather than computerized or template-driven. The Guild’s intent is to promote continued learning and awareness of the skills and techniques used in the art of quilting, and we were pleased to have several large quilts on display that would not have been eligible in the past. The Guild hopes to attract a larger number of quilt entries, both hand- and machine-quilted, for future shows.
This year’s judging required four judges for adult needlework entries and one for quilting. All are experienced and certified through national organizations. The judges spent a long day assessing all of the entries and had difficult choices to make as they selected the special award winners. Congratulations to all of the winners, and a big thank you to everyone who entered pieces and visited the show.

2025 Textile Conservation Fundraiser Prizes
The Guild’s 2025 fundraiser offerings were very popular! Tickets were sold by Guild members starting in April, and many more were sold during the show, where the pieces were on display through Sunday afternoon. The winners were drawn at 3:30 pm.
Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to the Textile Conservation Fund for Stan Hywet, which supports the refurbishing and maintenance of textiles within the Manor House.
Congratulations to this year’s lucky winners!

You do not need to be present to win, but it’s fun when you are!
A special thank you to the Guild members who worked on or contributed to this year’s prizes.
The Wellesley Americana Bear - a delightful and patriotic needlepoint bear that sits and stands and brightens any room (14 inches wide, 17 inches tall)
Horned and Winged Beaded Bowl - a stunning three-dimensional bowl made from over 23,000 beads! (5.5 inch diameter)
Estate Quilt - a beautifully pieced quilt from the estate of Irene Greene (70 x 44 inches with a sleeve on the back that allows the quilt to be hung vertically)
The Wellesley Americana Bear
This three-dimensional needlepoint bear was designed by the Wellesley Needlepoint Company and is made up of fourteen individual canvases. The canvases, which were donated to the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild, were organized, assembled into kits, and distributed to a group of dedicated stitchers who spent the year completing each individual section. The completed canvases were turned over to an equally talented finisher to create the final, adorable bear.
The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild team members included Jody Ball, Mary Cap, Phyllis Dreyer, Sherri Hawley, Julie Kerner, Penny Mann, Sharon Merklin, Marion Mewhinney, Susan O’Malley, Wendy Price, Michelle Sayre, Betty Jo Scurei, Leslie Snowball, Cheryl Timko, and Carla Waggoner.
Horned and Winged Beaded Bowl
This stunning and unusual bowl was designed by Mikki Ferrugiaro, an international artist and bead designer. Sherri Hawley, a member of the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild with a passion for beading, stitched the bowl and informed us that it is made up of approximately 23,500 beads! It is diminutive in size and bold on color and texture.
Estate Quilt
This lovely quilt was created and stitched by Irene Greene, an avid quilter, stitcher and supporter of textile arts. As a tribute to Irene, her friends and family donated her needlework projects and supplies to the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild. Her estate donations have enabled the Guild to raise funds for the conservation of textiles in the Manor House.
Guild Booth
For 2025, Guild members made handstitched, embellished greeting cards to offer for sale. Each card featured a unique decoration on the front. There were cards for every season and occasion, and some had detachable stitched and beaded ornaments.
In addition to the cards, there were a small number of fall-themed pieces left over from 2023 and some jewelry items from 2021 available for purchase at reduced prices. All proceeds from sales support the Guild Education Fund.
Guild members were on hand to answer questions and provide information on Guild membership. The upcoming 2026 educational programs were displayed on the board and on the monitor along with the prior year’s programs.
