My Favourite Things Sampler by Betsy Morgan (Part I of a Stitch-Along) - Kit Fee: $55
Join us for the kickoff of a year-long band sampler stitch-along facilitated by Sue Fassoles. The “My Favourite Things” sampler by Betsy Morgan was featured in Inspirations Magazine, Issue 120, and described as an "enchanting sampler that includes glossy red strawberries with a stumpwork flower, golden acorns, gentle whitework, a variety of flowers plus a sweet white rabbit and colourful Bargello band.” The sampler uses a variety of stitches including Algerian eyelet, corded detached blanket stitch, French knots, herringbone, Montenegrin, queen, spiral trellis, and more.
The mini-workshop will focus on the first few bands, and subsequent stitch-in time will be scheduled on the 2025 Board and Stitchery Showcase meeting days in May, July, September and November. If all goes to plan, you will have a completed sampler by the end of 2025! On 36-count linen, the finished sampler size is 6 1/8” by 8 7/8”.
All members have the option to purchase this kit and participate in the stitch-along throughout the year, even if they choose to take a different mini-workshop for April.
The class kits will include the digital pattern, seven colors of silk threads, antique white 36-count linen, and the wire and cotton fabric for the stump work. If 36-count linen is too high a count, you can substitute any size you are comfortable with. You will have plenty of silk thread if you choose a lower count fabric, making the sampler a bit larger.
Students need to provide a roller frame or hoop, crewel and tapestry needles, embroidery scissors, scissors to cut wire, and your usual stitching supplies including light and magnification if you need it.
Beaded Pear Fob - Patti Smith-Gardner (Zoom) & Susan O’Malley (in person) - Kit Fee $12 - Limit of 25 Students
The pear fob is a 3-dimensional beading project which works up in less than a day! It starts with a wooden form made of two differently sized wooden beads. Seed beads are stitched around the form using tubular peyote stitch. Adding the stem, leaf, and the length leading to the clasp completes this cute fob which is about 1” tall and ¾” wide at the bottom of the pear.
Each kit will include seed beads (4 grams size 11 Chartreuse AB for the pear, 0.20 grams size 15 Dark Green for the leaf, and 0.40 grams size 11 Matte Brown for the stems), a lobster claw clasp, the wooden bead base (consisting of one 16mm and one 10mm bead on a plastic stick), and 3 yards of 6lb crystal Fireline beading thread.
Students must provide a beading mat or tray, beading needles (a #10 will work), scissors for cutting the beading thread (don’t use your good embroidery scissors), and the usual stitching supplies including lighting and magnification if needed. The following supplies will be helpful if you have them but are not required: a bead stopper/clamp (usually a large bead – such as a size 6 – will work), a small triangular bead scooping tray or a scoop for counting out piles of beads as you work, and a Thread Zapper tool.
Mandatory Pre-work: Students are required to watch three YouTube videos prior to the Beaded Pear Fob class in order to become familiar with the techniques used to complete the project.
