Location: Carriage House
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: March 1, 2024
Join us for one of the following options:
Acorn Scissor Fob - Marsha Papay Gomola - Kit Fee: $35
The acorn has long been a favorite decoration for embroidery; so it is appropriate that we create an acorn to decorate our embroidery scissors. The acorn is embroidered using Weeks Dye Works to add random shading and counted stitches to add texture. After the counted work is complete, a ladybug and caterpillar are added using padding and slips. This class is a good opportunity for anyone that has never tried stumpwork to experience two of the main techniques used to create dimensional effects.
The class kit contains everything needed to complete the project - Edinburgh Linen (36 count), DMC six-stranded cottons, Weeks Dye Works six-stranded cotton, Pearl cotton, muslin, felt, needles, all finishing materials, Mill Hill glass beads, and detailed instructions.
The student should bring a five-inch hoop, scissors, and a pen for taking notes to class. Don’t forget magnification if you use it.
Constructing a Fabric Book - Ginger Mangie - Kit Fee $30
Students will work on a stunning design of lavender as their initial page of a fabric book. The 4” motif is done in silk-ribbon embroidery (one simple stitch!) and is surrounded by a 4” x 5.5” embroidered frame done in pearl cotton and loopy French knots. The workshop will include a demo and discussion on how to construct a fabric book of pages designed and created by the student. Think samples of needlework, crazy-quilt designs, lace, buttons, whatever you can imagine! The class piece is also suitable for framing if the student so desires.
The class kit will include the fabric, ribbon, threads, and needles for the lavender page. The written directions for creating the fabric book will also be included. Please note that no other materials for the book will be included.
The student should bring: regular stitching supplies including light and magnification (if needed), scissors, and a 5” embroidery hoop, if desired. (Ginger did not use one when she stitched this design.)
Weaving On a Hoop - Mary Kay Roediger - Kit Fee: $12
Back by request from last year’s Adult/Child Workshop, this is a project for all ages. Students will create a woven wall hanging using an embroidery hoop as a loom. Students will decide on the size of their piece by providing their own hoop; 10-12 inches is recommended.
The class kit will include the thread for creating the warp and a selection of materials for the weft. Various textured fibers such as acrylic yarns, wool, and organic materials like sticks and dried greens can be used. Attendees can bring some of their own weft materials to use and share.
Students should bring a hoop for their base and normal stitching supplies.
Stan Hywet Guided Tour - Tour Fee: $10.50
